Fantasy Football: Week 7 Aftermath and Making Trades

by John on October 27, 2008

I’m catching up with this, any anyway I got creamed. 63 points in a league where about half the teams cross the century mark each week - yep, ker smackers. What happened?

Nothing happened, that’s what. Barring a bye or two I was starting what should be a 1st string team:

  • QB - Peyton Manning
  • WR - Plaxico Burress
  • WR - Santana Moss
  • WR - Marvin Harrison
  • RB - LaDanian Tomlinson
  • RB - Brandon Jacobs
  • TE - Anthony Fasano
  • K - Nate Kaeding
  • DEF -Tampa Bay

The diagnosis need not be dragged out - Santana Moss boxed above his weight and otherwise the whole lot of them tanked it badly. At this point, screw LT’s toe, screw Manning’s bursa sac. Let’s do some stuff!

Prior to the Week 8 games I proposed a few trades, hoping to make everyone’s teams better (but mine a little more than others). Because of a bye week move, I have two very good defenses: Philadelphia and Tampa Bay. Another team was facing a crazy bye situation, with (I believe) all three receivers and his defense. Rich in running backs, I offered him the Phily defense and LaDanian Tomlinson (still not an awful back, just not amazing) for Michael Turner. At the same time, another team has been seriously undermanned at wide receiver without seeming to notice. So, I picked up the best WR on the free agent market (Bernard Berrian), who is something like 27 points better than their current third receiver. I packaged him with Brett Favre (he came across the waiver wire and he fit a bye week need for me) and Brandon Jacobs (nothing wrong with him, just looking for better) and made a bid on Adrian Peterson. As crazy as that sounds, when you stat it out the deal works for her.

If I managed to stabilize my running backs, my wide receivers could actually hold their own and my quarterback situation is pretty strong (so long as Jay Cutler’s arm doesn’t fall off). We’ll see how it goes, oui?
