My match-up for week 1 was against the Belltown Motherbuckers (a co-worker’s dog’s name is “Bucky” and we work in Belltown). According to the projected scores I’m supposed to win comfortably. Her line-up:
- Donovan McNabb
- Reggie Wayne
- Torry Holt
- Dwayne Bowe (in for the suspended Steve Smith)
- Adrian Peterson
- Frank Gore
- Tony Gonzalez
Yes, she has some studs, but we all do in this league since it’s so small. Nevertheless, Yahoo! projects me as being up by 13.
Thursday night I was feeling golden - Plaxico Burress and Brandon Jacobs both had productive nights, so I was feeling good (although Santana Moss was mostly ineffective, but that can’t hurt me, right?). So Sunday rolls around, and I hit trouble: LaDanian Tomlinson does not have a great day. Not completely miserable, but when your first pick is good for 10 points, in this league at least, you’re in trouble. Still, Terrell Owens and Plaxico Burress both played above expected, so all is not lost. So let’s see, how are her players doi- OH MY GOD DONOVAN MCNABB ENGAGED FTLs!!! Yeah, not good. He went for *32* points.
Projected result: win 105-89
Actual result: lose 104-91
Looking back, my decision to sit Marshawn Lynch for Brandon Jacobs was a good one from a yardage perspective, but Lynch found the end zone and Jacobs didn’t, so I cost myself two points. I’m not prepared to say it was a mistake, though - Jacobs ran a lot better last week, he just wasn’t the man holding the ball at the ends of drives. I’ll probably bring Lynch back in, though, since he’s all Buffalo has going for them against Jacksonville. I’m also realizing that I’m following into the media trap - I don’t see many Buffalo Bills games, so I don’t know about Lynch personally. Meh. He’s going back in, let’s see if he’s worth his pick.
